Deeraj Sanmogan, who suffered severe burns when the fuel boat he was working on exploded, died on Wednesday.
Sanmogan, 27, of 129 New Road Vreed-en-Hoop, died of third degree burns, relatives revealed, after a post mortem was performed yesterday. He had worked on the vessel, Mother Ganga, for nearly a year and a half.
While discharging fuel at the Texaco Wharf on Bartica last week Friday, the pumps stopped working and while the situation was being investigated the boat exploded. It was while the boat was being taken out into the middle of the river that Sanmogan, who was in flames, jumped over board. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he remained for treatment until his passing
Sanmogan was the last of four siblings. He was the only male offspring of Edwin and Aileen Sanmogan. He leaves to mourn his wife and three sisters. His elder sister, Sherry Sanmogan had nothing but high praises for her brother.
Sanmogan was said to be a very loving, helpful, honest and hard-working person. He is remembered by his family as a jovial person who was always willing to lend a hand or share what he had. According to one of his cousins, he was not one to share his problems if he had any.
Sanmogan will be cremated at the Ruimzeight Crematorium on Sunday at 1pm.
