Magistrate Ann McLennan sentenced a trainee teacher to three months community service after he pleaded guilty to possession of ½ gramme of cannabis.
Mark Walker, 24, a full-time student at the Cyril Potter College of Education, was also fined $3,000 when he on Tuesday appeared in Christianburg Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge.
Walker is required to serve his sentence at the Turkeyen Police Station, three days per week for three hours each day or serve four weeks imprisonment. The Amelia’s Ward resident was found with the narcotic on Friday. He told the court he uses the drug for smoking purposes.
Meanwhile, Rodwell Farrell, 27, a supervisor at the Snooks Variety Store has also been sentenced to perform community service after pleading guilty to a similar possession charge. He was ordered to spend three hours per day, three days per week for the next three months at the Mackenzie Police Station or serve an alternative of four weeks imprisonment. Farrell was found with the drug while at the Mackenzie Market on Friday.
