Shaw, who was dismissed from his post on Monday last, said he was being victimized because he produced a report which exposed weaknesses in the corporation which were costing it millions of dollars.
Gopaul, during a press conference on Friday, said that although Shaw had the bid documents for the electrodes in his possession since mid-December 2009, these were never taken to the board’s tender committee, a report from GINA stated.
The corporation’s board, Gopaul said, unearthed several malpractices during Shaw’s tenure adding that the police will be called in since these actions have caused the corporation to lose money on numerous occasions. The chairman disclosed that a recent audit concluded by the board cited Shaw and other members of his department for various irregularities, the release added.
Meanwhile, Gopaul said the corporation is working towards ensuring that systems work to eliminate waste, maximize efficiency and end corruption. He issued a warning to managers who feel they can do wrong and not be penalized, the release said.
According to him, GuySuCo has had to conduct several audits over a period of time and culpable officers were disciplined. “We not only did audits on procurement and on GuySuCo’s accounting system but we also conducted audits in the cultivation [sector]to examine whether there was neglect on the part of senior management and we have found several cases of that,” Gopaul said. According to him, some of these managers will be sanctioned and explained that some of them have already been questioned and that disciplinary action is pending.
