The Environmental Community Health Organization (ECHO) is calling on government and other stakeholders to push ahead with the implementation of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).
In a press release Echo said it had previously stated its support for the LCDS and its benefits to the natural environment as well as the country’s development. It said too the LCDS affords Guyana an opportunity to be a global leader and strong advocate for good environmental stewardship and justice.
“We are aware that there are challengers with various aspects of the strategy,” ECHO said, adding that it is also cognizant that with effective environmental communication and the participatory model embedded in the LCDS, it could work well to secure the integrity of the natural environment.
ECHO has already committed to working with any programme or strategy including the LCDS, aimed at protecting and preserving the health of the environment. Currently it is working with schools and local communities to raise awareness and empower residents to take leadership on environmental issues.
