East Canje a hotspot for noise nuisance

I would like to inform the Minister of Home Affairs that East Canje is one of the hot spots in Berbice for noise nuisances. I hope he gives the necessary directives to police in the area to deal with the defaulters, which happens to be mostly residences which have been wreaking havoc by playing music very loudly on a continuous basis especially on the weekends.

I am penning this letter on Sunday at 4:45 pm. My neighbour has a music set stationed in their backyard (just opposite my room) and has been playing loud, thumping music since 9 am. The music is vibrating in my room. I telephoned the Reliance Police Station just after 1 pm. The Constable I spoke with seemed to know where I was complaining about even before I gave her the full address of the residence. She promised to let the patrol visit the area “as soon as they returned from Betsy Ground” (an East Canje Village). It is now 4:47pm. I do not know if anyone came, or if they came and spoke to the persons of the residence, then left, and the music was turned up again. But, like every Sunday, I did not get peace in my home. I, like all other Guyanese, am entitled to 24/7 of peace and quiet in my home. Every day, so many Guyanese are being deprived of those basic rights. And the Ministry of Home Affairs is not tackling this bothersome issue as it should. I am asking this newspaper to forward this letter to the Honourable Minister.

Yours faithfully,
