This church at Lamaha and Middleton Sts is disturbing the peace

Dear Editor,

I was heartened to read in the March 21, 2010 Sunday Stabroek that noise nuisance laws are being enforced – according to the Minister of Home Affairs.

However I beg to differ, it is almost 10 pm in Lamaha St, Newtown, a residential neighbourhood and many residents I am sure are being assaulted by the loud noise emanating from the church located at Lamaha and Middleton streets.

I am forced again for the third time today to discontinue helping my child in his preparations for his common entrance exams, having been disturbed by the morning church service at 11 am to 1 pm, the banging of drums at 3 pm by someone who apparently had access to the church and decided to play solo for himself and then the service going on now which started at about 8:30 pm. After it became so overbearing that I couldn’t even think logically anymore I called the Kitty police.

After the phone rang out three times a female officer Ms. Simmons answered, after stating the problem she told me that it was probably a crusade and most likely the church would have gotten permission and there was nothing the police could do. I hang up wearily…my head pounding, unable to do anything but to wait and hope to be able to sleep before midnight, hopefully my son can as well. Mr Rohee what next can I do???

Yours faithfully,
