Equipment malfunction disrupts GT&T’s cellular service

Congestion on GT&T’s cellular network was why several of the company’s subscribers had difficulty sending SMS messages and making calls on Monday evening.

Sources within GT&T told Stabroek News that the problem was discovered at around 8:00 pm on Monday and it continued until about 10:30 pm, when it was fixed. Reports are that a piece of equipment had malfunctioned and that this had to be replaced. Stabroek News was told that when the problem was identified, immediate efforts were made to rectify it. However, during this time, customers experienced delays in sending text messages and difficulties in making calls. Regular services, however, have since resumed.
