Four persons, accused of lifting flour from NAMILCO, were yesterday charged with conspiracy to steal.
It is alleged that in October, 2009, Hera Bachan, Dhanuk Dhari and Dasrath Ramnanan conspired with a person or persons unknown and stole 24 bags of flour valued at $198,000 from NAMILCO. A second charge read that on October 3, 2009, the three accused along with George Spencer, 53, of 9 Stewartville, West Coast Demerara conspired with persons and stole 36 bags of flour valued at $277,000, property of NAMILCO.
Bachan, 24, of 15 Good Faith, Mahaicony; Dhari, 55, of Pike Street, Kitty and Ramnanan, 45, of 275 third Street, Grove, all pleaded not guilty when the first charge was jointly read to them. On the second charge, the first three defendants together with Spencer pleaded not guilty.
Attorney Satesh Kissoon asked acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson for bail to be set in a reasonable amount. Bachan, Dhari and Ramnanan were given bail in the sum of $150,000 while Spencer was given $75,000 bail.
The matter is returnable for April 27.
