Dear Editor,
Guyana Water Incorpora-ted wishes to refer to a photo in the Sunday March 14 edition of the Stabroek News (page 9). The caption of the photograph, which revealed water on the Avenue of the Republic pavement, indicated that the source of the water was a leaking pipe.
However, a thorough investigation was conducted by GWI’s Leakage Team which revealed no leaks in the immediate area.
According to GWI’s Operations Director (A.g.) Joseph Coddette, the water appeared to be emanating from a blocked drain.
Hence, not only was your caption incorrect but suggested that GWI was at fault. A proper investigation by your reporter/photographer would have revealed the true source of the water on the pavement.
GWI maintains an excellent relationship with all members of the local media. A call to our Public Relations Department would have avoided the erroneous caption.
Our aim is to partner with your media house in the interest of enhancing public awareness about matters which affect their water service. Permit me to remind all customers that leaks can be reported to our Customer Services Call Centre on 227-8701 or via the e-mail address customercallcentre@gwi.gy
Customers can also post leak reports on the “wall” of our Facebook page, available at www.facebook.com/everydropcounts
Yours faithfully,
Timothy Austin
