Glenville Cox, 44, of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, and Xavier Westmaas, 22, of Regent Road, Bourda, both pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to commit a felony, when they appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. They were granted $75,000 bail.
The men denied that on March 24, they conspired together and with others to endeavour to obtain 300 five-gallon pails of lubricating oils, valued over $3.5M by virtue of a forged Sol Guyana Inc., delivery invoice, purporting to show that it was issued by the company and can be used as genuine, when they knew this to be false.
Cox stated that he is the truck driver at the company and that on the day in question he was waiting for customers when two men approached him and told him that they wanted an enclosed canter to deliver the oil. He stated that the men then requested that he change the truck’s number plate, which he did, since the men had offered him money to do so. He stated that he made two deliveries for the men.
Meanwhile, Westmaas stated that he is a labourer at the company and that one of the culprits had given him the invoice and when he checked it, it had corresponded with everything.
He noted that he knew nothing about the forgery.
The prosecution made no objection to bail but asked that it should be granted in substantial amounts.
The duo is expected to make another court appearance on April 22.
