Reigning Group-4 champion Andrew King was again  supreme at the South Dakota Circuit yesterday in the Guyana Race of Champions time trials.

King posted the day’s best time of 35.304 seconds and at today’s meet he is expected to sizzle since he said that there were some minor touches to make to Mazda RX7 overnight. His long time nemesis on the circuit Mark Vieira, after a one year hiatus had earlier warned all and sundry to bring all that they have, posted 35.728 seconds for the second place in the grid position today.

Race pundits and enthusiasts alike have already weighed in and most have King to beat Vieira, whose car engine was upgraded to a 20B Rotary after the Mazda previously used a 13B Rotary engine. During the time trials King and Vieira looked impressive and many are waiting with bated breath to see the outcome today.

Kevin Jeffrey posted a third place time of 36.254 seconds with Andrew Morgan, who also returns to the fray after a year out was fourth with a distant 37.154s. When the day’s proceedings were ended Morgan was seen getting au fait with the circuit and retesting his vehicle for the rigours of race day.

In the Group-3 Ryan Rahaman topped that category with a blistering 36.3s in his Ford Sierra, Kemal Seebaran (38.190s) and USA based Khem Lall was third with 45.194s. However, it must be noted that one of the group’s top contenders Gavin Guyadin was not present at the yesterday’s event.

In the 2B category the diffence in the times were much closer than any of the other categories.

The aggressive Danny Persaud recorded 40.227s with Keeron Rodrigues coming in with 40.269s and Afraz Allie following closely with 40.357s. Harold Hopkinson, who is seventh in the grid today, said that things will be different at the end of the races today.

In other results Raymond Ally, Jad Rahaman and Chet Singh were the top contenders in 2A with times of 40.237s, 40.283s and 40.789s respectively. Go-Kart drivers Alex Fiedkou topped that division with a time of 43.423s while Jerry Max Gouveia (44.011s) and Nikil Seereeram (44.230s) were second and third.

Soren Griffith took the first place position in the Rookies with 41.626 and Shayne Seebaran and Raj Singh rounded out the top three positions.
