He pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny from the person when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.
He denied that on March 24, he stole a gold band valued $47,000, from Pedika Phagoo.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on the day of the incident Garraway had approached Phagoo, who was walking on the road, and snatched the band.
He stated that public-spirited persons had apprehended Garraway while he was fleeing the scene. The prosecutor said the band was never recovered.
However, Garraway’s lawyer Patrice Henry applied for bail for him on the grounds that he has no pending matters in the court and that he poses no risk of flight.
Telford then objected to the bail application on the grounds that despite Garraway being on bail for matters of a similar nature in other courts, he continues to commit such offences.
Garraway then stated that his only brush with the law was a while ago when he was imprisoned for an unlawful firearm possession.
The magistrate then transferred the matter to Court Ten for May 13. (AB)
