An elite coaching programme for the country’s top cricketers gets cracking this morning at the National Stadium at Providence.
The programme run by the Guyana Cricket Board in collaboration with the management of the National Stadium is being co-ordinated by the GCB’s High Performance Analyst Robin Singh.
The long term, high-performance programme, is mainly for the country’s elite, senior cricketers.
The Elite Commitment Programme will run from Mondays to Fridays every week until the Twenty20 World Cup competition.
According to Singh, the programme is open to all current and former national players and is intended to hone all areas of a players’ game; batting, bowling, fielding and mental toughness.
“Everyone working or attending this programme will be demonstrating their personal commitment to cricket,” said Singh.
He added that the GCB will provide balls while manager of the National Stadium, Tony Xavier, has generously provided the venue and the use of his staff.
National coach Ravindra Seeram has committed to everyday participation.
According to Singh the players will be expected to provide their own transportation and refreshments in a demonstration of their own commitment to the game.
The players confirmed to attend so far are: Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine , Sewnarine Chattergoon, Assad Fudadin, Verasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Trevon Garraway, Lennox Cush, Said Drepaul, Rayon Griffith, Gajanand Singh, Ryan Ramdass, Leon Johnson and Vishal Singh.
Singh said other players are expected to join the programme upon their return from overseas contracts.
Additional coaching assistance will be provided by Cricket Development Officer, Reon King, Demerara Coach Orin Bailey and WICB Chairman of selectors Clyde Butts.
