This endangered Olive Ridley turtle was yesterday morning released into the sea near Greenwich Park, after it washed up on the Tuschen foreshore on Sunday. The turtle, which was handed over to the Leonora Police Station, was identified by Romeo DeFreitas, the Country Co-coordinator for the Marine Turtle Project under the Guyana Marine Turtle Conservation Society (GMTCS). According to him, this is the first Olive Ridley Turtle that has been spotted in Guyana for four years. The turtle was tagged before being released into the wild. (Photo courtesy of GMTCS)
