The decomposed body of a man was found in a Houston canal yesterday morning by his niece.
Bawandial Panday, 51, of Lot 23 Houston, East Bank Demerara was last seen by his relatives some time on Sunday. His niece Nadira Rampersaud, speaking on behalf of relatives, said that they do not suspect foul play. She made the discovery at about 11 am.
Panday, she said, was a habitual “drinker” and also suffered from seizures. Relatives believe that he fell into the canal while in a drunken state. Questioned about whether Panday’s body bore marks of violence, his niece said they were unable to tell because of its decomposed state.
The man’s body is currently in care of the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour. A post-mortem examination will be conducted today.
