The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) brought smiles to the faces of over 300 children from three depressed communities and to the children of Shaheed’s orphanages when it distributed kites to them on Monday.
GPL Director of Finance Sabrina Rampersaud and Public Relations Officer Shevion Sears-Murray presented the kites to children in Tiger Bay, Albouystown and Sophia and the orphanage, a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.
Rampersaud told the media that the exercise is among a number of activities to benefit children that the company has planned for Easter. Other activities include quiz competitions and donations to orphanages.
Meanwhile, Administrator at the Shaheed’s Boys and Girls’ Orphanage, Ryon Doodnauth expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying that the exercise “makes them feel like a normal kid”. This is the first time that GPL has distributed kites to children and it hopes the exercise has spread cheer among youths for the Easter holiday.
