Dear Editor,
I know I couldn’t do a proper and fuller piece to contribute my congratulations on the occasion of the 91st birth anniversary of one of the country’s Grand Old (???) Men.
Hilton Lewis is 91 not out today and until I get around to following up a feature I did a few years ago, let me say Happy Birthday Sir Lewis from me and from hundreds whose lives you have surely touched.
For you were a teacher, headmaster, choir master, GNS member, sport organizer, champion international athletics master – and the list goes on. I am sure your colleagues, friends and relatives who have managed to stay the course with you – as well as the thousands you’ve taught – from Mocha to Christ Church to Campbellville and elsewhere in Guyana would join me in this birth anniversary tribute. Even the “ordinary facts” that you taught the late President Desmond Hoyte when he was little at St Barnabas and that you’re Big Uncle to former Police Commish Laurie Leyland Lewis merit more tribute too.
Go play the horses; do as you wish with your son and visiting close ones today. And continue stroking your healthy, fit way to the century, closer in sight.
Yours faithfully,
Allan A Fenty
