Dear Editor,

As a Guyanese residing in French Guiana I want to congratulate the team management, coaches and athletes who participated in the just concluded 43rd Inter Guiana Games, which was held in French Guiana, for making all Guyana proud. With a very young and inexperienced team (most of whom were participating at an international meet for the first time), the coaches did an excellent job of bringing out the best in the athletes. During the opening ceremony Guyana clearly won the prize for the best dressed delegation decked out in their green and yellow suits with each person waving a Guyana flag.

Imagine my surprise when I learnt that all athletes would be competing in the under 19 age group and seeing our 13 and 14 years old swimmers going up against 18 and 19 years old from Suriname and French Guiana. I think that the swimmers did an excellent job under such circumstances and I feel that there is hope for the future. On the track and field side, we the Guyanese supporters were in a back and forth battle with the French supporters, and the chants got louder and louder as our teams won more and more races.

Thank you to Mrs. Karen Pilgrim (general manager), Mrs. Dee George (Swim team manager), Mrs. Stephanie Fraser (Swim team coach), M  r. Irshad Mohamed (Chess team coach), Mrs. Pamela Phillips (Athletics team manager), Mr. Lyndon Wilson (Athletics team coach) and Mr. Joseph Wilson (Football coach) you have all done an excellent job. I have never been so proud to be a Guyanese and on behalf of all Guyanese living in French Guiana I want to thank you all for making us proud and good luck to you in the future. Hope to see some of you athletes back here when the games return to French Guiana.
