Guyana’s top junior basketball sensation Akeem “The Dream” Kanhai top scored with 19 points for Amelia’s Ward Jets but failed to stop Kashif and Shanghai Kings from winning in the latest action of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association under 21 round robin tournament.
Kanhai carried the bulk of the weight for the Jets with his classy “Dwayne Wade like plays”, but could not stop the determined Kings led by Sheldon Noel who had a game high 23 points, while Orrin Rose supported him well with 15 points as the Kings won by a slim margin 55-54.
For the Jets, Paris Cadogan posted 12 points to offer some back up to the versatile Kanhai.
Block 22 Flames were victorious on Friday evening beating Wismar Piston 47-25 with Stephon Arthur scoring a flombouyant 16 points and Maverick Angel hitting the nets for 17 points.
However the fire refused to light the following night for Block 22 Flames as they were outmatched 90-50 by the Victory Valley Royals. The Flames were down 15-50 at half time but could not match the fast paced plays of the lads from the Valley. For the winning side, Chris Williams posted a game high 34 points while Marlon Pollydore shot 22 points and Marvin Russell 16 points to out the Flames.
Sparking for the Flames were Stephon Arthur and Kellon Sullivon scoring 11 apiece.
In other results of matches played over the weekend, Retrieve Raiders got the better of Amelia’s Ward Jets 57-54.
For the Raiders Jaffar Larose scored 21 points and Devon Gittens 13, while for the Jets Akeem Kanhai and Linden Fraser scored 13 points apiece, with Marlon Persaud supporting with 11 points.
