The annual Scotia Bank Medal Play Golf tournament is billed for Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC), East coast Demerara.

Ronald Bulkan, secretary of the LGC, yesterday disclosed that the cream of the country’s golfers will be on show in what is expected to be a keenly-contested competition.

Bulkan disclosed that National champion Avinash Persaud, who recently placed fifth in the Trinidad and Tobago Open championships, is back in Guyana and will be in action Saturday.

He is expected to receive stiff competition from his younger sibling Avinda Kishore, who has been showing fine form since his return to the game following a one year hiatus from the sport.

In addition, Club Captain Jerome Khan has just returned from playing in the Blue Monster tournament in Miami and he too is a leading contender.

Also in contention will be the in-form William Walker, Patrick Prashad, Ian Gouveia, Mark Lashley, Gavin Todd, Carlos Adams, Mohanlall Dinanauth, Imran Khan, Mike Mangal, Hilbert Shields, Christine Sukhram, Joaan Deo, Melissa Humphrey, Mel Sankies, Boloram Deo, Mike Guyadin, Lester Alvis, Albert Semple and Colin Ming.

Scotia Bank will also be well represented with banking executives Esau Shamshudin and  Brian Hackett leading their challenge.

Scotia Bank Country Manager Amanda St. Aubyn has been invited to witness the tournament and present the prizes to the outstanding performers.

Tee off is at 12:30 hours.

Meanwhile, Bulkan said that three regional players, two from Trinidad and Tobago and one from Barbados took part in the LGC Club tournament last weekend.

One of the players was Scot Anderson, the golf coach of Brian Lara, the former West Indies cricket captain and world batting record holder.
