Dear Editor,
I refer to an article in your March 20 edition (‘No NDC authorized to increase property rates –Lall’) about NDCs not being authorized to increase property rates. The Craig-Good Success-Caledonia NDC, East Bank Demerara, increased rates, and you will remember you published a letter from me pointing out that I paid an almost 600% increased rate to the said NDC for land I own at Supply EBD. I wanted and still want to know the reason I was charged the massive increase when the place where I have my land is not much different from the time when the British colonists first came here.
Now that the Local Government Ministry has said it has not authorized an increase, how do I get back the massive increase I paid, and what will be done about those at the NDC who took it upon themselves to increase the rates without authority.
Finally, if the opposition parties don’t want to contest the local government elections, the PPP should go it alone as it has people to manage the affairs of all the towns and villages.
At this point also allow me through your newspaper to offer my sincere sympathy to the family of Boyo Ramsaroop; he was a friend.
Yours faithfully,
Wendell P George
