Mackenzie High School (MHS) crushed Kwakwani 68-32 in the Victory Valley Royals Inter-School basketball tournament which began yesterday at the Mackenzie Sports Club hardcourt.
MHS was led by Dellon Campbell who top scored with 14 points. He was supported by Devon Wilson and Sheldon Noel with 11 and 10 points respectively while Dominique Douglas (10) and Kishon Thomas, nine points, were the top scorers for the opposition.
Kwakwani trailed MHS 30 – 25 at half time but somehow lost focus and paid dearly as they watched the opposition take the game further out of their sight.
The six Linden schools taking part in the competition are New Silver City Secondary, Linden Foundation Secondary, Mackenzie High, Linden Technical Institute, Kwakwani Secondary and Christianburg Wismar Secondary.
The march past of the teams preceded the brief remarks make by representatives of the partners who helped to make the competition possible.
Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle, declared the tournament open.
Physical Education Officer in Linden Lindsay Longhorne encouraged the teams to play as a unit as the stepping stone to greater achievements. She further urged them not to look at this as just another game but the commencement of an opportunity to represent the district at higher levels of the game.
President of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) Abdulla Hamid and Digicel’s Dwayne Scott also made brief comments at the tournament launch.
