Deon Sampson won the second Desmond Dorsett fitness walk from No. 48 Village Side Line Dam to the No. 53 Village on the Corentyne last Sunday.
The Dorsett family, who hails from Leeds/No.50 village, holds the race to honour the Desmond Dorsett, who died last year. Deon beat a 24-man field that included five females with Nigel Melville and Nigel Mc Gregor coming in second and third respectively in the senior category.
Shawn Agard was the first junior to cross the line while Wesley Wilkinson and Dexroy Thompson crossed in second and Dexroy Thompson occupied the last podium position. On the distaff side Chelsea Toney took the pole position with Anicka Juandoo and Martina Johnson rounding out the next two places.
The end participants were given trophies that were donated by the Sport Ministry by and certificates of participation. Monetary contributions were also presented to winners by Widow Waveney Dorsett, who was a former Headmistress.
