PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana remained on a collision in the West Indies Under-15 championship, when they completed comprehensive victories overs Barbados and Leeward Islands respectively in the round of matches yesterday.
T&T took care of sporting rivals Barbados by 73 runs, and Guyana crushed Leeward Islands by 10 wickets in a low-scoring affair.
T&T and Guyana remain the only unbeaten teams in the competition, and are scheduled to meet in the fifth and final round on Sunday in what could be the Championship decider.
At the National Cricket Centre, Brian Christmas struck eight boundaries to lead the way with an unbeaten 84 from 100 balls, as T&T, sent in to bat, reached 240 for nine in the allotted 50 overs.
Opening batsman Aleem Khan supported with 26 and T&T captain Mohan made 24.
Leading bowler for Barbados was off-spinner Dario Boyce. He bagged four for 43.
Barbados started their chase steadily, but a middle-and-lower order slump saw them slipped from 158 for four to 167 all out in 42 overs.
Barbados captain Jamal Stuart top-scored with 56 off 64 balls with seven fours, and Jaffari Toppin made 35.
Andy Gobin, Jovan Ali, and Mohan were all collected three wickets.
At Inshan Ali Park, Leeward Islands, choosing to bat, were skittled out for 60 in 31.5 overs, as no batsman made 20 runs or more.
Four bowlers took two wickets apiece for Guyana – Shalendra Shameer, Ricardo Adams, Shawn Perreira, and Gudakesh Motie Kanhai.
Opening batsman Brian Sattaur then continued his good form for Guyana with stroke-filled unbeaten 45 off 26 balls enriched with eight fours to see his team to victory.
In the other match, defending champions Jamaica stayed alive in the competition with a six-wicket victory over Windward Islands at Gilbert Park.
The Windwards, sent in to bat, were dismissed for a modest 173 in 50 overs.
Kelton Cadoo topscored with 55 off 58 balls with five fours and a six, while Fabian Allen and Kevon Williams had three wickets apiece for the Jamaicans.
Stand-in captain Aldane Thomas then led the run-chase for Jamaica with an aggressive 61 off 68 balls adorned with seven boundaries.
Allen gave support with 35 not out and Sadique Henry 24 not out.
Round Four matches will take place tomorrow.
