Dead is Richard Salakram called ‘Donkey man’ and Ricky of Lot 1 Riverview Ruimveldt. When Stabroek News visited the home last evening his mother and daughter were too distraught to speak. Relatives did not divulge much information but one said that he left for work last Thursday and did not return. The woman was to return to the nearby Ruimveldt Police Station to make a missing person’s report. The relative said that she suspected murder because there was a visible wound on the man’s head.
This newspaper understands that around 7.55 last night, the body was found floating near a shipping wharf. After rope was tied to the body, it was pulled to the Marine police wharf located behind the Ruimveldt Police Station.
A police officer told this newspaper that the man is a suspected pirate who it is believed was involved in an attempted robbery on a ship which was moored at a wharf in Kingston last Thursday. According to the officer, security personnel attached to a city guard service, discharged several rounds at the group who escaped by jumping into the river.
A small boat that the group had used was later discovered drifting alongside the ship.
This newspaper was told that although it was suspected that Salakram might have been involved, a post mortem would determine if he had been shot.
The body appeared to have visible ‘fish bites’ and according to the policeman no gunshot wounds were visible on the body.
When Stabroek News arrived at the wharf, about an hour after the body had arrived it was still lying there. The man was lying face down and was clad in a green sweater and dark coloured pants. There were marks on his foot.
The body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.
