Stabroek News found out last week how the man/woman in the street planned to pass the long Easter weekend.

`This Easter I am going with my nephew and fly kite at the seawall or at the National Park on Easter Monday. However over the weekend before Monday I sell kites and then on Monday we go out about three o’clock to get a good spot. We sometimes go early. As a small boy they used to call me ‘Kite’. If you leave me I will fly kite on Christmas. I like kites.’

`I plan to have a ball of a time. I am going to paste a kite with my children and then take them out for a picnic and kite flying so they can enjoy themselves. Ninety percent of the time I make my own kites with the children so we can spend time together. I buy the papers and the frame and we do our own kites.
Also I am going to ask God to bless my family in the future because we go to church before we go out the Sunday before.’

`I’ll be out here selling kites and then on Tuesday me and my husband take the children to go kite flying. They enjoy it and at least it is not so crowded. We go out at the seawall and picnic.
I sell the kites on Easter Monday because somebody always want more baller or tail or sometimes their kite break up and they come for a new one and I am there when they need one.’

`I like Easter but I can’t really go out to fly kite I have to work. I am a security guard you know and on those days you can’t absent yourself.
And since all my grandchildren migrate work keeps me occupied but for me the best thing about Easter is flying the kites. It is more a family event and my family is not here. I miss them and I miss spending the time with them.’

`I usually go on the seawall and meet up with friends. We fly kites for a short period. But usually when I wake up I go to church do my prayers and in the afternoon go out. But I have to work this year.
I think the variety of kites that are being flown and the way they colour the sky is what I like about Easter. The kites signify the ascension of the Lord.’

`I usually stay home during the day and go out in the afternoon with friends to watch the kite flying. I enjoy the breeze and the lovely kites. On Friday we fast and go to church on Sunday and then I go out on Monday.’

`I spend the holidays with my son. We normally go touring, travelling and walking. We are from New Amsterdam originally. On Saturday we will spend the time by an aunt and on Easter Monday we are going to Joe Vieira Park to fly kites with the family. Normally when we are back home we go to number 63 beach and hang out and have fun.’

`My husband and I plan on taking the children kite flying on Vlissengen road for a few hours. But since they are young we really just take them out to take in the sites. I use the time to do some cleaning, go to church and spend as much time with the family is how I will spend this Easter weekend.’

`I usually take the children out on the Melanie seawall to fly kites. My church, the World Harvest Ministry and Healing Centre, have an annual Easter sale out at the same seawall so we go out assist them and enjoy the kite flying.
Before that we attend the Good Friday service and Easter Sunday service and then Monday we are out on the wall. There is no rest for me during the Easter season but the children enjoy it.’

`I go to church. I am an active member in my church. I will relax and play music after the church service and on Monday I don’t never fly kite but I spend the day on the West Coast with my family. We go out on the seawall over there and the sea breeze there is different from Georgetown’s. I have spent Easter Mondays the same way for over 30 odd years.’
