Police are yet to arrest the taxi driver who struck and killed Ramona Harris on Friday night, a short distance away from her Diamond New Housing Scheme home.
The accident occurred at Eleventh Street and the main access road of the East Bank Demerara neighbourhood. Another taxi driver who witnessed the accident that night had told relatives he was travelling in a car with passengers when the other taxi flew past him and struck Harris down. Harris, he’d said, was in the corner of the road about to turn into her street when the car picked her up and tossed her back down into the grass.
It was the same witness who later handed over the taxi’s licence plate number to the police. Harris’ sister, when contacted last evening, said police were yet to make an arrest.
“We still don’t know who this driver is yet based on the licence plate number,” Tracy Harris told Stabroek News.
