The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs recently handed over a solar system to provide electricity and sport gear to the Kamana Village community centre
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Liaison Officer to Minister Pauline Sukhai, Norman Whittaker, handed over the items to the Region Eight Village Toshao Derek Williams. The items are a 130-watt solar system and sport gear including tennis, cricket, football and volleyball sets that will be distributed to the Kamana and Kurukubaru youth clubs.
Williams also collected the village’s 2009 Presidential Grant of $1.2 million which will be used to stock the village shop.
A capital grant of $1.2 million was also handed over for the construction of a village office, GINA said.
Williams expressed gratitude for the money and gear which he said would greatly assist in developing the village.
