Semple told Stabroek News last evening that the owner turned himself in to police on Monday. He was accompanied by an attorney and is contending that while he owns the vehicle he was not driving on the night of the incident.
Harris, 27, of 549 Diamond New Scheme was on her way home after purchasing a meal when she was struck down. The incident occurred around 10 pm at the junction of Eleventh Street and the main access road in the area.
The owner of the vehicle was detained by police on Monday and remains in their custody.
“The owner and the driver of the vehicle are one and the same person,” the Traffic Chief told Stabroek News. However, he could not say when or if the man will be charged.
