Paul Headley of Lot 4 Princes Street, Werk-en-Rust initially pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful wounding.
It was alleged that on February 24 at his Princes Street home, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded his mother, Roylance Headley.
The defendant stated that on the day of the incident he was just trying to have a closer look at the design of the head-tie his mother had on, when she picked up a glass bottle and lashed him to his head. He said the bottle broke and a piece of it fell and sliced her face.
The magistrate then entered a not guilty plea for him.
However, the virtual complainant stated that she was in the kitchen when her son approached her and snatched the head-tie off her head.
She said that when she objected he took a sharp instrument and slashed her to her face. She said that she didn’t know it was a piece of a glass bottle.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford requested that the defendant be remanded to prison and a date be set for the early commencement of a Preliminary Inquiry into the matter.
He noted that Headley had been recently imprisoned for six months for wounding his mother to her head and if released he may continue to commit such acts.
The magistrate then refused bail for Headley when he suggested it and ordered that the matter be transferred to Court Two for April 22.
