President of the GCB, Chetram Singh, yesterday credited GTM for their solid support over the years.
Singh said GTM was one of the most successful and dedicated sponsors over the years and highlighted the 34 years of support that GTM has invested in the sport.
Singh also spoke of the effectiveness of the annual GTM Under-19 Inter-County tournaments.
“The bulk of our players normally pass through GTM’s competitions,” said Singh.
“It is a very useful competition. It is one that builds the cricketers,” he added.
Singh also spoke of the GCB’s gratitude to GTM’s sustained sponsorship in what he described as “trying economic times.”
Director of GTM, Beverley Harper, presented the cheque and two towering trophies to Singh on behalf of GTM.
Harper spoke of GTM’s enthusiasm behind their substantial support and affirmed the company’s delight to be part of the event.
The Director also stated that GTM was proud to be associated with this competition in particular because it involved youths.
“We are happy to be a part and to bring forth some youngsters that will be sound, solid and reliable,” Harper stated, integrating the company’s motto “We are very proud to be a part of ensuring that cricket survives in Guyana,” into her address.
She claimed that GTM understood the challenges of all persons involved and how trying it was for them to secure financial and other support and urged other corporate companies to join their trend.
The tournament begins with the three-day competition which will be followed by the limited overs format.
