– Lennox Blackmore, Earl O Neil, Ken Gibbs in action
Overseas-based national football players of yesteryear will turn back the hands (or should that be feet) of time when they challenge the local former nationals in a Celebrity Soccer match today at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC).
Today’s game will commence at 5pm and will he held for former Thomas United and national footballer Godfrey Poullis-Norville.
According to a source, all proceeds of the match will go to Poullis-Norville, who has been diagnosed with glaucoma and is now legally blind. Stabroek Sport also understands that Guyana’s former middleweight and light middleweight boxing champion Lennox Blackmore, who is based overseas, will be playing in the benefit match that will cost patrons $500 for admission.
The football career Poullis-Norville extended from 1967-1974 and he first played for Santos and then later for Police before he ended his career at Thomas United.
Some of the notable names that will be playing in today’s game are Ken Gibbs, Blackmore, Deon Barnwell, Eon Williams, Keith London, Estwick Northe (goalkeeper), Earl O’Neil, Michael Pierre, Richard Hing and Trevor `Lanny’ Maxwell.
