Although the tournament will be held in New Amsterdam it is open to chess players throughout Guyana.
A group of players from Georgetown are already scheduled to take part in the event throwing down the gauntlet to former national champion and Berbice’s number one player Kriskal Persaud. According to a release from the GCF, it hopes that the location of the tournament will encourage schoolchildren in the surrounding areas to take part in the tournament. The tournament is being sponsored by Berbice businessman Faizal Ally, Managing Director of A. Ally and Sons General Store.
Players with chess sets and clocks are requested to bring them along to the tournament. Registration will begin promptly at 9am to facilitate an early start.
