PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Daren Ganga lashed an unbeaten 104 to lead Alescon Comets to a crushing 113-run victory over Explorers Sports in the final preliminary round of the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board’s Twenty20 Shield competition on Wednesday.
Ganga’s hundred was one of three on the day with opener William Perkins and all-rounder Kjorn Ottley also reaching the milestone.
The T&T captain slammed 11 fours and five sixes from 62 balls that helped Comets to post 218 for three off their allocation of 20 overs at Pierre Road Recreation Ground.
Ganga received good support from West Indies-A selectee Imran Khan. The all-rounder struck five fours and three sixes in 57 from 24 balls.
Explorers, in reply, were dismissed for 105 with little-known fast bowler Rakesh Maharaj taking three for 16 and leg-spinner Khan three for 24.
At Macaulay Park, Perkins continued his rich vein of form in the tournament, when he hit a stroke-filled, even 100 for Wanderers against Caldrac Sports Club.
Perkins collected five fours and 11 sixes from 34 deliveries, as Wanderers scored 259 for eight from their 20 overs.
National all-rounder Navin Stewart made 48 and uncapped Omesh Ramoutar 44.
Caldrac were never in the hunt and were eventually dismissed for 118.
At Inshan Ali Park, Combined Campuses & Colleges all-rounder Kjorn Ottley hit 102 for Preysal Sports against Curepe.
Ottley struck 12 fours and five sixes off 45 balls, and T&T and West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin made 49, as Preysal tallied 232 for six..
Curepe were restricted to 81 for seven in their chase.
