Barron, 28, of Albouystown and Angoy’s Avenue, was denied bail on the indictable charge, which alleged that he stole a Dell laptop valued $200,000 from Camille Reddy. In addition, it was alleged that while using personal violence he stole $2000 from Reddy.
Police said on March 30 Reddy was walking near Main and Pope Streets in New Amsterdam, when Barrow attacked her and deprived her of the items.
But Barrow claimed that he had just concluded serving a five year sentence and was living straight. He confessed that the computer was sold to him by an individual, who reportedly told the police. In addition, he said the police demanded $35,000 from him to conclude the matter.
Inspector Satrohan Dayaram referred the prisoner to the Police Complainants Authority, where he said his complaints and allegations against the members of the force will be entertained.
The matter is fixed for hearing on March 30.
