Jagdeo, Caricom climate change experts discuss adaptation projects

President Bharrat Jagdeo met Head of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) and Science Advisor Dr Ulric (Neville) Trotz on Thursday to discuss specific projects that can benefit Guyana as it adapts to the phenomenon.

Leslie and Trotz are considered experts in the field of climate change in the Caribbean, a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said. Head of the Office of Climate Change at the Office of the President Shyam Nokta also attended the meeting which focused on renewable energy and strengthening data gathering on climate and weather.

The CCCCC coordinates the Caribbean region’s response to climate change. It is the key agency for information on climate change issues and on the region’s response to managing and adapting to climate change in the Caribbean.

The CCCCC provides regional climate change data, climate change-related policy advice and guidelines to Caricom Member States through the Caricom Secretariat.

In this role, the Centre is recognised by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the United Nations Environment Programme and other international agencies as the focal point for climate change issues in the Caribbean. It has also been recognised by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research as a Centre of Excellence.
