Further, Kumar will take the salute for the March Pass of the men’s and women’s teams at 10:30 hours. Afterwards, the men from Yamaha Caribs, Pepsi Hornets, and the Guyana Defence Force will vie for the Banks DIH championship trophy and the President’s Cup will be contested by the women from Yamaha Caribs and Pepsi Hornets.
This tournament will be followed by the GRFU Sevens League with the males contesting the President’s Championship Trophy and the females the Vice-President’s trophy.
The opening of this season follows a year of success for the national men’s and women’s sevens teams with wins at the Caribbean Championships held in Mexico last November. The men’s Sevens team has already begun intense preparation to compete in the Central America & Caribbean Games Rugby Sevens to be played at the National Stadium on July 24-25.
Both teams will be defending their Caribbean title in Guyana immediately after the CAC Games, when this tournament gets underway from July 27-31.
