Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore’s quest to capture a world title continues to be put on hold as he slowly recovers from a hand injury he sustained during his recent successful challenge for the WBA Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) Super Bantamweight title.
In January, Moore defeated Indonesian Marangin Marbun by unanimous decision to win the title but injured his left hand during the bout. The fight took place in Singapore.
Since returning to Guyana, Moore has been under the care of Dr Trevor Joseph at the Eureka Lab. The injury is said to be serious and could require surgery to rectify the problem. Moore, however, has opted for therapy, which may be a temporary but safer fix if he is given enough time to heal.
In the interim, the boxer has been keeping fit with regular road work and he is expected to return to the gym shortly to begin light training.
Moore, who is ranked sixth in the world in his division, is now the holder of six international titles. He is also the Caribbean’s second highest world-rated boxer and is said to be just two wins away from getting his crack at a world championship. His record stands at 26 wins with 22 KOs against 2 losses.
Moore’s manager Carwyn Holland recently secured a promotional deal for him with an Asian promoter.
