A 37-year-old resident of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, was brutally chopped to death around 10.45 am yesterday; his assailant has been taken into custody and a cutlass suspected to be the murder weapon, retrieved.
Reports are that Michael ‘Prickle’ Kissoon was resting on a mattress in a “drug yard” when the attacker starting hacking away at him. His neck appeared to be almost severed and he also sustained chops to his head, back, hands and other parts of his body.
When the police arrived, the suspect was still there and gave himself up. Persons who had gathered after learning of the murder told this newspaper that the police quickly whisked the man away to the New Amsterdam station. A blood-soaked mattress was also removed from the scene.
Police said in a release that “initial investigations have revealed that Micheal Kissoon was involved in an argument with another man during which he was chopped about the body.”
The release said Kissoon was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Reports are that the suspect claimed that “dem boys in de yard does take advantage of me and ah know that one day ah woulda catch one a dem.”
The suspect, a 34-year-old man who works at a baker shop also claimed that “…me nerves shut down.”
This newspaper understands that the suspect and the victim would “normally hang out in the yard” along with other drug users and they sometimes slept there.
The house in the yard was owned by a suspected drug dealer who is currently serving a sentence in jail. His family members still reside at the house.
A neighbour said he heard sounds as though someone was “chopping beef” but he did not “take it for anything” and did not realize that it was
Kissoon who in fact was being being butchered.
