Three batsmen- Jaisindra Sookdeo, Chandi Narine and Jamal Hinckson- registered centuries yesterday as the second round of the Haier Cup second division 40-over tournament continued.
At the Camp Ayanganna ground, the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) took on the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). GCC scored 246-8 in their allotted 40 overs, with Sookdeo leading the way with 148 runs. Bowling for the GDF,
Marcus Watkins and Carl Campbell both captured two wickets while Dennis Legray and Jermaine Martins also chipped in with wickets.
In reply, the GDF could only muster a paltry 89 in 25.3 overs, with GCC’s Parmanand Ramkissoon grabbing 4-15 in his 8 overs.
Meanwhile over at the Malteenoes Ground, the home team triumphed over the Guyana Youth Organisation (GYO). Responding to the GYO’s total of 209-7 off their allotted overs, the MCC racked up 212-7 in 38.2 overs, with opening batsman Chandi Narine scoring an unbeaten 119. Patrick Bradford was the pick of the GYO bowlers with 3 wickets.
Earlier in the match, MCC’s bowlers Shaquille Williams with 2-32, and Delon Moffett with 2-45 had kept the pressure on their opponents with their crafty bowling.
In the match-up between the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and UG, DCC came out on top. Lead by Hinckson’s 102, DCC managed a total of 235-9 on their home ground. Earl Fortune captured 3-36 and was ably supported by Danny Seepersaud and Richard Chaturia with figures of 2-37 and 2-25 respectively. UG were bowled out for 156 in 37.5 overs in reply, with Chaturia top scoring with 33. Mathew Mark, 4-27, and Dexter George, 2-22, led DCC’s bowling efforts.
