Jermine Sutton hammered home a hat-trick of goals as Georgetown crushed Bartica 7-0 in a Group One match of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Inter Sub-Association Under-17 group playoff phase yesterday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
Sutton’s hat-tick came in the second half of play after King Archer and Randolph Wagner had scored two goals each earlier in the encounter. The Bartica side was forced into defence mode as early as the 7th minute when Archer netted his first goal.
The Georgetown side was kept at bay for a while before Wagner converted his first strike in the 37th minute and scored once more in the 41st to give his team a 3-0 lead at half time. Archer was back in the goal hunt when he netted again in the 67th minute.
Sutton then took charge in scoring three goals in the space of 16 minutes. The diminutive striker scored in the 69th minute and returned to convert again in the 83rd minute and two minutes later, he netted his third goal.
It was a tough day for Bartica’s goalkeeper Teon Joris who was unable to respond to the onslaught.
Meanwhile, the result of the Linden/East Demerara clash at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden on Saturday was unavailable up to press time.
The tournament continues this weekend with East Demerara opposing West Demerara at Enmore Community Centre ground on the East Coast of Demerara on Saturday at 15:00 hours, while on Sunday Berbice will do battle with Georgetown at the Blairmont Community Centre ground at 14:00 hours.
The knockout phase of the competition will kick off
on May 1.
Georgetown, Bartica and Berbice are competing in Group one while Group two comprises Linden, East Demerara and West Demerara.
