The Mackeson Super Ward Basketball Championships did not disappoint its patrons as it got underway Saturday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with exciting basketball and flaunting cheerleaders.
The night started off with a blow out of 96-59 victory for Albouystown-Charlestown against East Bank Demerara followed by a failed attempt from East Coast Demerara to pull off an upset victory over the top-rated North Ruimveldt team in a game that ended 65-51.
In the first game Albouystown/Charlestown led from the inception and they ended the first quarter with a 12-point lead. East Bank appeared to be making a strong comeback and they were within one point at the halfway point through the third quarter but they failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The quarter closed with the East bank team down by 20.
With the help of Kevin Joseph’s 20 points which included five shots from downtown, the lead quickly increased and East Bank suffered a humiliating 46-point trouncing. Trevor Smith led the scoring for East Bank with 14 points.
In the second game North Ruimveldt came from behind and snatched victory from the grips of East Coast who were winning up until the start of the fourth quarter.
Comprising of a star studded line-up of mostly Ravens’ ballers, North Ruimveldt proved too good for the East Coast in the long run.
Rudy James scored 12 points for North Ruimveldt while Stephon Gillis also netted 12 for the East Coast.
The Mackeson Super Ward Basketball Championship continues tomorrow night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 6pm.
