The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) plans to mount an aggressive public education programme to engage and educate citizens on public health issues.
In a statement, the M&CC said the public education drive will entail a series of radio/television call-in programmes, in response to a litany of public health issues in Georgetown.
The M&CC said the series will begin today on NCN 11 at 8:00pm. Topics scheduled for discussion are food storage and handling, environmental sanitation, water purification and conservation, inspections of food processing plants and allied facilities. Further, it said technical, health and professional staff from the M&CC and health personnel from ministries such as the Ministry of Health are expected to participate in the programmes.
Many of the health issues, the M&CC noted, arise from a lack of knowledge by some citizens and the failure to meet certain legal requirements, in addition to fulfilling their roles as responsible citizens.
