Yurong Paru recently commissioned its village shop and a newly-built Village Council office, both of which were constructed with funds from its $1M annual Presidential Grant.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) news release, Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai said the Region 9 village has made good use of the grant and has conducted a number of development projects of its choice.
One person is employed at the village shop, which allows persons to purchase items at reasonable rates.
The employee is given a stipend for services and also disseminates information relating to the Village Council. The opening of the village office would ensure proper community governance, allow for the effective storage of data and improve the overall efficiency of the council.
Toshao Reginald Francis said he was happy for the grant.
He said too $2 million had been given to the community to expand the shop and that it had been completed through community labour.
