Dear Editor,
The Ministry of Finance, the President, all political parties and competent authorities must immediately rectify the very scandalous situation with regard to outstanding payments to workers who worked very hard every day including Saturdays and Sundays in the recently concluded Claims and Objections exercise conducted by the Guyana Elections Commission. These employees include registration officers, assistant registration officers, clerks, clerical assistants and political scrutineers. These persons have been anxiously looking forward to their remuneration.
GECOM has failed to display common courtesy and decency by informing these suffering people about a date when they would be paid. I know many of these workers, of whom I am one, who had budgeted to spend their hard earned-cash on urgent and pressing expenses: light bills, mortgage instalments to prevent foreclosure, etc. There is a disappointing silence, especially from the political parties whose scrutineers are seriously affected.
Yours faithfully,
