A man was yesterday remanded by acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson for unlawfully assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Leonard Boston, 26, of 35 John Street, Lodge is alleged to have unlawfully assaulted Alicia Williams on April 3 at John Street. He pleaded guilty to the charge. Williams was charged with assaulting Boston on the same day and she also pleaded not guilty. She was released on self bail.
The parties indicated that they had a disagreement about Williams’ desire to go home. Williams, 19 of Roxanne Burnham Gardens, said that she decided to go home earlier than usual to which Boston did not agree. When she tried to make a call, he pulled the phone line out of the jack.
Later, after making a call, Williams went outside to await a taxi. Once on the stairs, Boston began to twist her arm in an attempt to coerce her to change her mind. He managed to get her back into the house, where he cuffed, choked and pressed her down. In the process she scratched and hit him.
Boston admitted to choking and slapping Williams because he was angry that she wanted to leave.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford said that Boston beat Williams mercilessly. The matter was reported to the police then Boston was arrested and charged with the offence.
The matter was referred to the probation office and is to come up on April 20. Boston was remanded while Williams was placed on self-bail.
