A man was remanded yesterday for allegedly threatening his niece.
A plea of not guilty was entered for William Nurse by acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson when he was read the charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. It is alleged that on March 27, he threatened Joanna Fernandes, resulting in a breach of the peace.
Nurse, 48, a groundsman at Queens College, told the court that Fernandes and his son had a problem, which he tried to solve. He alleges that Fernandes’ boyfriend slapped him and she cursed him when he passed her workplace. He added that he never threatened her.
Fernandes told the court that there was a problem but Nurse did not approach it in a civil manner. Instead, she explained, he pulled a blade and said that he was going to chop her. She alleged that he threatened her while he was passing her place of work. She became afraid and was told to make a police report. She added that Nurse has threatened her on several occasions.
The prosecutor said that he had no objections to bail. However, bail was refused.
The case has been transferred to Court 10 for April 19.
