The annual Bakewell-sponsored Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) of Guyana 15-overs Inter-Jamaat Softball Round Robin Cricket Competition commenced on Sunday at the MYO ground, Woolford Avenue, with three scheduled matches.
MYO defeated Corneila Ida by nine wickets. Corneila Ida then comfortably defeated Land of Canaan by nine wickets while Queenstown claimed a walkover from Lusignan who failed to turn up.
Corneila Ida batted first and made 113 all out in their allotted 15 overs. Salim Mohammed and Vikash Totaram made 19 runs each while Richard Latiff picked up 5 – 5 to spearhead the attack with help from Raymond Harper who bagged 2 – 20.
MYO in reply made light work of their target as they got up to 116 – 1 with Waslim Haslim top scoring with an unbeaten 56 and Shaheed Gittens supporting with 38 as he also remained unbeaten.
In the other showdown, Land of Canaan took first strike against Cornelia Ida and posted a mammoth total of 164 for 8 in their 15 overs with Martin Dookie top scoring with 53 runs and Ferose Mohammed making 30.
Br. Ali grabbed 4 – 26 for Cornelia before they began the successful run chase that was led by Lincoln Liander’s unbeaten century.
The target was reached in the 12th over as Liander hit a tremendous 106 while Ameer Mahmood pitched in with 18.
