KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Ireland captain William Porterfield is hoping Sabina Park can make his 100th appearance for his country a memorable one.
Porterfield faces West Indies in the second One-Day International of the Jamaica Cricket Association Festival on today at the historic venue here where they have been successful in the past.
“It’d be a perfect way to celebrate my 100th cap to get a win over West Indies,” said Porterfield.
“Sabina Park has great memories for us – the dramatic tie with Zimbabwe and the win over Pakistan [during the last Cricket World Cup].”
He added: “We were in a great position against them (West Indies) on Sunday [in the T20], but let it slide. Our bowlers are hitting their strides, and Trent Johnston in particular has been exceptional. It’s up to the batsmen to come to the party now.”
Three years ago, Ireland shocked the international cricket fraternity by tying with Zimbabwe in their first game of the CWC 2007 and then beating Pakistan in their second game at Sabina Park to reach the second round.
