The public is invited to a screening of Welcome to Sajjanpur at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), New Haven, Bel Air today from 5.30 pm. This film is hosted by the ICC Film Club.
The film, a comedy, is directed by Shyam Benegal, and is a departure from his usually serious genre. The story is based around Mahadev an unemployed college graduate (played by Shreyas Talpade) who works as a letter writer. He comes into contact with a variety of characters : “.. a power-hungry goon, a eunuch, a short tempered army man and his widowed daughter-in-law, a compounder, a housewife whose husband, working in Mumbai, hasn’t showed up for four Diwalis…”
Mahadev turns on his persuasive letter writing skills to try to manipulate people and situations, and the results are often unexpected and hilarious.
Admission is free.
